normal">The Vagaries Of Fame
The only thing he ever wanted
Was people to know his name
He only wound up being daunted by
The vagaries of fame
When he was a young boy
To the age of nineteen
He thought that he would always be the best
And then he saw James Dean
Try as he might he couldn’t get it right
He could reach but could not grasp
He could not accept the reality
Of imaginary circumstance
The only thing he ever wanted
Was people to know his name
He only wound up being haunted by
The vagaries of fame
He ended up inside a bottle
Then he died a broken man
They found him in a run down dirty one room
He took a bath with an electric fan
The news hit the trades and soon it was said
He was the one they all wished they could have known
They put him on t-shirts and magazine covers
He finally came into his own
The only thing he ever wanted
Was people to know his name
He only wound up being flaunted by
The vagaries of fame
Well that lady sends her message
Through a whirling wicker cage
The stories get more twisted
The gossip more debased
Her house is one of mirrors
To reflect her vanity
The foundation built on rocks of ice
That melt into the sea
The only thing he ever wanted
Was people to know his name
The only thing it ever got him was
The vagaries of fame
