I was layin’ there sleepin’ ‘bout two in the mornin’
When the telephone rang
It was a nurse on the other end and she said
I think it’s just about time
Threw some clothes in a bag jumped in my car
And headed out on that drive
Turned a six hour trip in four and a half
I musta done about ninety five
When I got to her room my brother was waitin
Said it’s the end of the line
We gave each other a hug pulled up a couple of chairs
And sat by her side
We held her hand as she lay there sleepin’
A peaceful look on her face
We softly sang her favorite song
Amazing Grace
We started tellin’ stories about growin’ up
And the lessons we learned
We realized we had the same side
And we got it from her
We talked about how everything that she ever went through
She never complained
Always had a kind word always turned the other cheek
How she’ll be happy to see Daddy again
-------- -------
We didn’t know if she could hear us
So we got real close
Kissed her forehead brushed back her hair
Told her it’s OK to go
We said Momma hasn’t it been nice we could be with you
In these precious few days we were able
She opened her eyes smiled and said three words
It’s been wonderful
Dark clouds filled the October sky
That morning we laid her to rest
The sun reached ‘round under one of the edges
That’s your Momma’s silver lining preacher said
All the time all the love all the memories
Now she’s got that crown of jewels
So many things she gave she left us with three words
It’s been wonderful
Thank you momma for everything
It’s been wonderful
