I co-wrote this song which is featured on the new 2010 Bunchgrass Band Cd album called Far Out West. 
This song is all about our early beginnings and Heritage here in Canada, with the Native signing of Treaty 7 in 1877. The song clearly reflects a troubled time and place in our nations history.The upheaval that challenged the great Blackfoot Nation in the area known as the North West Territories was a difficult challenge for our Aboriginal friends.

I recorded the Native drummers live on the Blackfoot Siksika Nation and added then to the production of the song. Hope you enjoy.

In 1877 Treaty Seven was signed, 

With the nations of the Blackfoot, and old Colonel Macleod.

Piegan, the Blood, Sarcee, Stoney, and the Blackfoot set the scene

And the North Western Mounted Police and her Majesty the Queen.

 

(Chorus) And the drums still ring and the dancers sing.

Songs of their forefathers, from many years ago.

Chief Crowfoot, Bearspaw, Bullhead, and Red Crow.

 

The whiskey traders and outlaws, the redcoats moved them on,

Yes the Mounties helped the red man, when the buffalo were gone.

The railroad was a coming and things were going to change.

Two cultures who collided and they’ll never be the same.

They met at the Blackfoot Crossing and they put their marks down,
Yes history was signed there on that sacred ground.
Men still gather around the campfires and think of days of old
Yes the elders tell the legends, of the warriors brave and bold.
