In My Shoes
(Robby Robinson, Cindy Roge & Ray Fontenault
This is a rough demo I recently completed, an enjoyable co-write with Robby and Cindy...apologies for some of my vocal work as it's range is pushing my abilities some...I also had a torn tendon in my left fingering elbow...:-)
Sittin' on a bench at a park across town
Watchin' my children on the merry go round
Old man walked up beside me took a seat
I could tell from his clothes he lived on the street
I smiled shook his hand said “how ya doin” friend
saw pain in his eyes, he looked around then down again,
(Chorus)
He said,
In my shoes is a hard place to be,
In my shoes there’s no guarantees
People stare while judging me
Never thought this is where I’d be
And I thank God for lovin’ this old fool
Cuz’here I am, , in my shoes
I was just like you until I lost control
Old number 7 got a hold of my soul
I had two little kids and a lovin wife
I lost my home, my job, my picture perfect life
If there’s anything friend you can learn from me
Put your faith in God, and hold on to your family
(Chorus)
Cuz’,
In my shoes is a hard place to be,
In my shoes there’s no guarantees
People stare while judging me
Never thought this is where I’d be
But I thank God for lovin’ this old fool
Cuz’ He’s right here… walkin', in my shoes
Modified bridge:
I often think back to that day
I didn’t even ask the old man’s name
As these words rolled through my mind again….
(Chorus)
In my shoes is a hard place to be,
In my shoes there’s no guarantees
People stare while judging me
Never thought this is where I’d be
But I thank God for lovin’ this old fool
Cuz’ He’s right here … walkin', in my shoes
Improv: in my shoes...Yeah, I pray God is always with me, In my shoes
End Tag: Sittin' on a bench at a park across town
