You and Me at the County Fair
Greg Wyard, Mike Monnier and Matt Casey @2011
Verse 1
Picked you up in my hand-me-down truck for our first date
Why was I so nervous, we'd been friends since 1st grade
You hopped in, you looked pretty with that ribbon in your hair
I hoped I would relax when we reached the county fair
Couldn't wait for tractor pulls, funnel cake and that Red Ferris wheel
We pulled in to an empty parking lot and a deserted field
Tents were coming down and men were loading crates
Carnie strolled over, “sorry Kids, you're one day too late”
Chorus
Nine years of friendship, a half hour date?
Never dreamed that day would go down that way
Thought love might be my prize at the county fair
Was it slipping away with no one else there?
It was just you and me at the county fair
Verse 2
Just when I thought it was our first and last date
You said "we still got each other and this perfect day"
Said "I'll grab that blanket and my jug of sweet tea"
We sat down, reminisced, laughed, was it better just you and me?
Chorus
Nine years of friendship, a five hour date?
Never dreamed that day would go down that way
Thought love might be my prize at the county fair
Was it just me or were you glad no one else was there?
It was just you and me at the county fair
Bridge
Now every year on the anniversary of our first date
We head back to those fairgrounds.. One day late
Final chorus
Nine years of friendship, a life long date
Never dreamed my life would turn out this way
Won my biggest prize at the county fair
Whole world slips away with no one else there
It's still just you and me at the county fair
