Ray Fontenault songs
Hey folks, this is an older tune I figured I would dust off and put up on the ramp. I wrote this with my wife quite awhile back. It never had much interest from a publishers perspective.
Just one additional note...My wife didn't sing this tune a young lady by the name of Penny sang it...and the demo was done at Holston Valley Music.
Distant Blood And Family Ties
Words/Music Ray & Donna Fontenault
Momma was always proud of her family tree
She instilled that pride in me
From the Indians who roamed the plains
Whose spirit runs through my veins
To the fisherman of the mighty seas
Who's courage still sails within me
A legacy of distant blood
To be ever so proud of
Oh distant blood kept close to my heart
By the old stories my momma told me
From distant shores to connecting skies
Distant blood and family ties
In momma's house stand relics of days gone by
History of family ties
Like the moccasins made by the Cree
With buckskin and colored beads
Or the painting, which hangs in momma's den
Of the seaman and seafaring friends
A memory of distant blood
To be ever so proud of
(To Chorus)
Oh the roots of my family
Stretch wide and deep
Into my life
Reminding me of where I got my start
And they will always remain
Ever close to my heart
(To Chorus)
