My little man got on that bus with an “I’m a big boy,” grin
But it was like a different kid got off when it pulled back in
With tears, he ran into my arms, “Teacher said today,
‘We’re not one nation under God, so say it this new way.'”
“Daddy, where did God go?
What have they done with Him?
Ain’t He watchin’ over us
The way He’s always been?
If they take Him away
Who will bless the U.S.A.?
Is there something I don’t know?
Where did God go?”
How does a dad explain all that to a child who’s barely six?
Better to turn the TV on than get into politics
We dozed to Pooh, woke to the news that shook me with a chill
They want to take, “In God We Trust” off the dollar bill
“Daddy, where did God go?
What have they done with Him?
Ain’t He watchin’ over us
The way He’s always been?
If they take Him away
Who will bless the U.S.A.?
Is there something I don’t know?
Where did God go?”
And “A little child will lead them,” suddenly rang true
When I saw it all through his eyes, and now I’m asking you,
“Tell me, where did God go?
What have we done with Him?
Isn’t He watchin’ over us
The way He’s always been?
Can’t we stand and say
God bless the U.S.A.!
Lord, there’s one thing that I know…
You’re still on Your throne!
And we’re one nation One Nation Under God!”
