This song started out as a poem Brenda wrote shortly after her mom passed away in 2004, as a way to cope with the pain of her passing. It sat in her hard drive for a few years and in 2009 while I was moving her files to a new computer I discovered it and asked her permission to write some music and make a song out of it. She initially said no, but after some discussion she agreed if it would not be distributed to anyone outside our family. When she and the family heard the song we all loved it and everyone agreed we should add it as the last track on our first CD which we published through CD Baby were its available (also on iTunes), hope you enjoy.

I want to go into the forest of healing
Where moss grows on the dark side
And Bluebonnets grow in the light
I want to sink into the side of a trunk
And be forgotten like a wrinkle in the earth
Where no one notices me except the sun
I want to slide into the c o o l i n g mud
That molds me like old pottery
Into a woman who no longer feels pain
I want to dance under the c a n o p y
Yellow chin stained from buttercups
Then be swept away.. like autumn leaves
I want to fly with the blackbirds
Forgotten by all who see them
Shadows that others ignore
I want to go into the forest of healing
And rest this body that feels broken
Against fences that need mending like me
I want to go into the forest of healing
I want to go into the forest of healing
I want to go into the forest of healing
