This song is as near to autobiographical as I'm going to get. Looking back on it now, I can see it's a bit 'busy', but I think it's turned out as a nice vehicle for my friends' playing.
I couldn't resist the slow down and full harmony ending on a minor 7th chord. (I guess that's unusual in a country song). When Joe played an upstroke guitar arpeggio with an added 9th to finish, it just was the icing on the cake. Love collaborations!

All guitars, Joe Ryan.  I asked Joe if he could create the moods of the different genres on the song, by playing like Hendrix, Duane Eddy, Ricky Scaggs, and Chet Atkins all on the same track. He just went right ahead and did it on the spot!

I’ve been in a rock band all my life.

But I didn’t count on meeting these two old hicks, 
Showing me a new way to play.

I remember listening to that rock n’ roll. 
When I was just a kid in school.
I loved Elvis Presley, didn’t know he’d stole,

It’s the same with Buddy Holly and the Everlys, 
Eddie Cochran and Gene Vincent too
They were all steeped in country, from A to Z, 
Then they brought it over here, for me and you.

I haven’t played rock music for a while,
