A lyric by me...everything else by Dale Crockett. Hope you like what Dale did with this story as much as i do!
I Still Bleed
An old man was walkin' past
an anti-war protest line
as a girl jumped in his path
and started wavin her sign.
She musta read his hat
said Proud American Vet
he stopped and softly asked
"what part don't you get?"
[chorus]
He said "I still bleed inside
from fightin' for the right
for you to wave your sign.
War is hell, I agree
but an ugly necessity
that keeps our freedoms free.
And that's why I still Bleed
Little lady, I still bleed."
They stood face to face
he had a twitch in one eye
she turned an walked away
her sign, not so high.
He said "go keep up your protest
say what you wanna say...
when free speech is spoken
it justifies my pain."
[repeat chorus]
[bridge]
I squeezed his hand as I shook it
it was the size of a catcher's mit
and walked away thinkin over
what he said to her...
[repeat chorus]
