This is a tune about an old friend who overdosed 25 years ago. I wrote the first couple of verses at that time, and the chorus. It took me another ten years to come up with the third verse. And several years after that to add the bridge. I'm posting the male version, demoed at Beaird Music Group in Nashville. Hope you like it. Ott
It’s Not That It Matters

so, how was it, baby, way out on the coast
did you laugh and make merry, did you drink up a toast?
did you climb in mountains, did you swim in the sea –
did you spend any time, baby, thinking of me?
CHORUS
it’s not that it matters, it’s not that I care
it’s just that I’m thinking of your long golden hair
I don’t want you thinking, that I’m missing you
I think I got lots better things I could do
so, how was it, baby, way out in the West
were you smiling and happy when you laid down to rest?
did you have someone by you, in the dark of the moon
did you have someone sharing, your love and your room?
CHORUS
it’s not that it matters, it’s not that I care
it’s just that I’m thinking of your long golden hair
I don’t want you thinking, that I’m missing you
I think I got lots better things I could do
BRIDGE
what indigo darkness, came haunting your heart?
blocked out all light, made everything dark
made you go hunting, a way to escape
threw ‘way my love, what devil’d you date?
so, how was it baby, on your last high
did your soul touch the moonbeams, did your heart fill the sky?
did you find your nirvana, and maybe much more
when you went on your journey, left me on the shore?
CHORUS
it’s not that it matters, it’s not that I care
it’s just that I’m thinking of your long golden hair
I don’t want you thinking, that I’m missing you
I think I got lots better things I could do
TAG
yeah, I think I got lots better things I could do
