That Old C Melody
Stevan Hay 2011
Nobody plays that Old C Melody anymore
It gathers dust in a rundown pawn shop store
Verse 1:
Back in the days when the jitterbug was new
At the Hotel Fontenelle, downtown Omaha
Flappers would dance to the College Club Band
The horn had its day when Jerry would play
But that horn couldn't pay the bills when the kids came along
Verse 2:
So into the attic it went 'til nineteen sixty one
When Jerry and the C.C.B. got together again
He played that horn, took a trip back in time
Remembered the days that faded away
All the years in between and the life that he chose
Chorus:
Jerry's gone, the horns still there
Waiting for someone to give it care again
In thirty-one Jerry and the band had it swingin' back then
Sax Solo:
Chorus:
Verse 3:
Jerry played That Old C Melody one more time
Then he put it in its case and drove it to the pawn
On Euclid Avenue near "The House of the Blues"
Hanging in the window within view
No one sees it there as they stroll past the store
