We had a friend some time ago. His name was Rube. He cultivated the most beautiful leafy plants that he called West Virginia Green. High Times magazine profiled his crop and called it the best in America.
I am sure I can’t remember where that garden lived but I do remember Rube saying this: "Don’t be a dope when you can be growing your own."
Just like in Flying Blind I, the songwriter, did the playing. If I was good I would not need session musicians. If they could write they would not need me. So I guess this is OK. Many of my son’s friends loaded the intro to this up as their ringtone. I guess it was sort of their own inside thing. The good part is my wife, BJ sings it.
now we are talking about green beans, right?
Home Grown
Natures’ own
Home Grown
Staying at Home
Home Grown
Watching it grow at Home
Don’t Go Down on the Corner
And Waste Your Money on Nature’s Own
Don’t be a Dope when You could be Holding Your Own.
Home Grown chorus
Save a little seed from the best you’ve had
And lay it on the window sill
Don’t worry ‘bout the the neighbors think you’re bad
‘Cause they don’t have to pay your bills
Lay back in your easy chair
And dream about the harvest moon
Don’t worry about financial affairs
It wont’ cost a nickel
For me and you
With our Home Grown
Call Me at Harvest Time
I’ll call you when I get Mine
We won’t have to have a dime
To call Home Grown
Natures’ own
Home Grown
Stayin’ at home
Home Grown
Watch it grow at home
Lay back in your easy chair…
