Many thousands of years ago, in the nineteen-eighties, a young Glaswegian called Tommy 'Tam' Campbell auditioned for the job of vocalist for Man At The Window.  He got the gig and over the next four years proved to be an exceptional frontman and singer for the band. 
His warm, melodious voice earned him the nickname 'Sweet T' and his charismatic stage presence exuded the confidence of the natural performer.  Tragically, like so many who are at home in the spotlight, Tam was a less assured figure off-stage.  After he left MATW, we heard disturbing rumours that he had met an untimely end, and as the years went by and no contact was ever established, we now have to regard those rumours as being well-founded. 
Kyle and I wanted to feature him in a song, emphasizing the good times we all enjoyed while at the same time recognising that if you don't hang together, you may well hang separately.  
There are a couple of little in-jokes that might be worth explaining.  In the mid-eighties there was a song called "Broader Than Broadway" which was a substantial hit in the Reggae charts, although it had no impact on the mainstream.  One of our most memorable gigs at that time was a performance in a place called Broadford, a beautiful village on the Isle of Skye.  There were people  literally swinging from the rafters that night and the buzz that was generated stayed with us all for a long time.  So "Broader than Broadford" became our code for "as good as it gets."
