Gerry Coogan songs
Just as you rock & roll people like to get back to basics with a twelve bar, so it is that those of us who are of the Reggae persuasion return time and again to the classic I-I-IIm-V sequence to keep in touch with our roots. (Our previous post "No Problem" was another such offering.) We like to say that this pattern offers scope for a great deal of improvisation within the live context, but it's probably just our way of avoiding having to learn too many parts!
Lest there may be any misunderstanding about the lyric, it should be made clear that neither Kyle nor myself has EVER had any problems or complications with womenfolk whatsoever, other than having to keep some of them at bay and let them down gently. However, sometimes the roadies come to us with their problems and that has given us some valuable insights into how things can apparently go wrong. So Colin, this one's for you, kid!
Kyle does the bass, drums and rhythm guitars; I'm on vocals, keys and lead guitars.
Thank you for listening. ~ GerryMATW

Something More (Bargain Basement)
(Words & Music by Gerry Coogan & Kyle Robertson)
(Hold it down, don't make me choose,
I'm holding out for something more)
Oh you, you seem to think that all you have to do now
Is look like you,
and that will be enough
But I, I have to say you need some good advice -
You better think twice
If you want my love.
I'm not shopping in a bargain basement
I'm not satisfied, I want a replacement
I say, second-rate won't do now, it will not do.
If I were you, standing there in your position,
I'd be a little worried 'bout the competition,
I'd say, second best won't do now, still won't do.
I'm the kind of man
Who gives it all he can,
So why why should I take anything less? No less!
I'm not the kind
To go changing my mind,
When I say "yes"
You know I mean yes, yes, yes, yes.
You could make me feel so nice
now I want more, I want all the love you've got to give
Do I have to spell it out?
You've got a choice to make
Jah know, you're keeping something back.
You know what I'm saying, yours is the choice.
Could you do better?
So you, you prove to me you'd make a real commitment
And you won't split
When the going's rough.
For I, I only need to know that you're for real now
If that's the deal,
That will be enough.
I'm not shopping in a bargain basement
I'm not satisfied, I want a replacement
I say, second-rate won't do now, it will not do.
If I were you, standing there in your position,

You know I mean yes, yes, yes, yes.
Hold it down, don't make me choose,
I'm holding out for something more.
You can read my lips, I'm yours to lose,
I'm holding out for something more.
