Ishraqi or Ishr?qiy(y)a (illuminationist school)

Suhraward?, Shih?b, a Muslim eclectic who established the ishraqi (Illuminationist) school of philosophy.   He wrote a number of works on the philosophy of Illumination, of which the best-known is Kitab Hikmat al-Ishraq (The Book of the Illuminationist Wisdom). In this book he describes how humans can travel from darkness to light but not only metaphorically. He believed that the center of light is the point at which the Qur’an was revealed.

The music begins slowly with an arpeggio and increases in speed until the arpeggio takes on the quality of a tremolo.  Ascending glissandos follow with a melodic line interspersed with chords.  A short passage of intervals in both minor and major thirds begins with an ascending glissando followed by a descending phrase which ends on a harmonic on the 12^th fret of a major fourth.  This is an attempt to give the piece a sense of up lifting movement like you might experience watching the sun rise.  The following section of alternating bass and fast arpeggios support this movement.  A slow quiet takes hold of the composition in the next section but again increases in speed and is replaced very quickly with a fast burst of sounds created by partial chords.  The piece ends as it begins with the introductory arpeggios and the same ascending glissando and melody interspersed with chords coming to a close on an A major chord played on the 14^th fret.  Another movement of rising notes to emulate a sun rise.
