I think the only reason I post songs is so I can write long, boring preambles. Forgive me...this is another family-related song. Much has happened since I wrote this song and it seems a bit prophetic. It started out as a song about Emily Kate, 13 years old going on twenty. I wanted to address the broad topic of giving up on people because of our misconceptions that they lack the personality or life skills to succeed. Emily Kate certainly does not lack in that area and has tremendous support from her family. Since the songs writing, events in the family and her extended family make this song even more accurate. Emily Kate will turn out just fine. Since her family has deep Irish roots, I tried to get an Irish-pub sound. Having never been to one, I don't know how that worked. My production sucks, as usual, but I did make a lot of noise!
Emily Kate what's yer wishes
There's nothing in life you can't claim
With most of our links bent and twisted
You may just be the strength of this chain
Oh your hair is the color of sunrise
And your dear mother's smile's on your face
You're a bit of a wit and you're streetwise
And you're drawn more to leather than lace
They all worry that life will be rugged
That you lack most the tools for success
Just remind them that your life ain't busted
And you're a lot better off then the rest
Emily Kate what's yer wishes
There's nothing in life you can't claim
With most of our links bent and twisted
You may just be the strength of this chain
You are finding it hard to be happy
Since your dear Papa moved out of town
Did you love him because he was sappy?
Or did he loose things that others had bound?
There are so many others to love you
There's a promise of iron to make
When you fall off or somebody shoves you
In this cradle of arms you'll awake
Emily Kate what's yer wishes
There's nothing in life you can't claim
With most of our links bent and twisted
You may just be the strength of this chain
