He gave her a small diamond he was making plans
But Anne went off to college he stayed home behind
When she married that rich lawyer

For 7 years each time he saw  the letters on his chest
Hed see the girl hed always love and never would forget

He was walking past the playground, the next time he saw Anne
She had a little daughter, no ring on her left hand
She hugged him and she told him how her life had changed
