Here's my Easter song. I was going to redo this as it is well over ten years old and done on an old Fostex 4 track recorder. It was written in a hurry after I heard a newscaster mention a "favorite son" reporting on a local election. There are things out of phase and stuff but I didn't have time to redo and rewrite it...or was it ambition?!
The Favorite Son
There he stood among the millions of weary desperate souls
And He taught them, fed and healed them through the desert heat and cold
Men and women brought their children and He sat them on his knee
Oh, how well He knew the wonder that a father's love could be
The favorite Son, His only One. God gave that day, the work was done
He could not bear to watch Him there
Alone He hung
The favorite Son
There are times when I have pondered in the stillness of the night
What the Father must have gone through as the world snuffed out His Light
And I wonder what jubilation must have followed later on
When the favorite Son broke free from death and God welcomed Him back home
The favorite Son, His only One. God gave that day, the work was done
He could not bear to watch Him there
Alone He hung
The favorite Son
I would urge you, precious people as you rush through life's hard days
That you stop and take a moment to reflect and hear Him say
"How I loved my One and Only and I gave Him up for you
Bring your heartaches and your worries. See how I can love you too"
The favorite Son, His only One. God gave that day, the work was done
He could not bear to watch Him there
Alone He hung
The favorite Son
