I never know what genre to post under. This is like a cross between folk/country/Roger Whittaker/Sons Of The Pioneers stuff.
Without cousins I would have no songs at all. Remember Emily Kate? There's a song on my page by that name. This is about Emily Kate's mom. She had to go away for a while and leave kids and grand kids behind. I wrote this from a few different perspectives. I asked her fiancé and also her son how they were coping and both mentioned how quiet it was now. A long story but things will be ok. I played a early 70's Penco short scale bass with probably the original strings...there's a knee slap at about 4:00. Classy, eh?! Another AABB song :( and it's a bit disjointed but that's me!
We all must pay for our mistakes
Whether now or later on.
So they led the lady off that day
Without fanfare she was gone
And it sure is quiet here today
All the clamor and sweet chaos and the laughter went away
I know that in a little while it will all be back to stay
But it sure is quiet here today
So I sent her a funny postcard to liven up her days
Because they're filled with gray and boredom and it kills her will to play
She still claims that I saved her life just by giving bits of hope
It's funny that the little things help us hang on to the rope
Somewhere in her children's hearts no angel could attain
The lofty love of innocence for their sunshine through the rain
For all that she has meant to them is all that they can see
And through the eyes of loyalty that's how that it should be
It's another gloomy chapter in a book of fading dreams
But there will be a brand new vision when the haze clears from the scene
There will always be the hardships, the struggles and the pain
But the brighter days have started and the dawn will come again
