Golly! Some of you may not understand a few phrases here...you youngsters. My family didn't have much money...didn't matter. We cut our own Christmas tree and made the stand out of two pieces of wood, crossed, then a single nail up the butt. Of the tree. I don't recall that presents were that important at all, just family and friends and the magic that surrounded The Season.
I remember Christmas as a kid
Laughing at the fun stuff that we did
Loved the smell of balsam in the air
Wandering through the evergreens out there
Dragging home the best tree in the woods
Hammering the cross stand on real good
Colored paper glued in endless rings
Joining in the family Christmas sing
We sang of wishing Christmas white
Songs of kings and silent nights
And we decked the halls with all things good and bright
Hovering round the wood stove big and black
There was not a good thing that we lacked
If I had one wish it would be clear
Christmas as a kid would last all year
I remember friends from far away
Honoring that grand and glorious day
Some we only saw just once a year
Maybe that is why they seemed so dear
There was lots of magic in the air
In the olden days when I had hair
And the greatest gift that I can give
Is to show my grandkids how I lived
