PLEASE! Read this boring, rambling preamble!
Old song...A birthday card from a friend prompted me to reintroduce this song.
Title by Beeswing!
This song has multiple personalities! It starts out kinda raucous and ragged and a bit funky then slides into sappiness as most of my songs do. I use a bunch of stuff...I finger pick a Danelectro 12 string electric and a DADGAD Les Paul and I dug out an old Penco short scale bass.
Many of you know that I have a special place in the wild that I go to stay and fish for weeks at a time and it actually does have multiple personalities of it's own. It's quiet and serene but has an underlying wildness and untamed beauty that in itself can be exciting in it's pseudo danger and mystery.
On Midnight Pond there's life beyond this metal candle's flame
No eyes respond but nature's wand spawns beasts of ancient fame
On Midnight Pond the age has dawned man and creature shun the tame
From here to yon archaic bonds make the two appear the same
There's a quietness of soul
Circled by the majesty
Fishing never was the goal
Stoic, grand this place to me
O the days are wonderfilled
In this sparkling month of May
But when the night is soft and still
On Midnight Pond the angels play
In daylight paradise what beauty my Friend brings
But in twilight cathedral's glow Creation starts to sing
How the years have slipped away
And the decades tell their tale
Changes coming soon they say
Sure to be the coffin nails
Will my grandboy have a place
Ply the waters by my side
Midnight Pond should see his face
And in my absence be his guide
