Jon Hanson songs
This song is a slice of time long past, 1977 to 1981. I was to be married to a young lady, she met me for lunch one day and said, "I am leaving at 3 for South Carolina, I have a new job, and it's best you; will find someone better." It turns out she was right, I did meet the love of my life, in October 1982 (I have been married for 27 years). I never saw her again, and while it might be good to say hi, none of these feelings remain. This is just a songwriter capturing a moment in time. I reached back to the pain to write this. This is my first pass at it, John Johnson sings and plays the piano. I may rework the chorus some and tweak a few words in verse. But I think it conveys the idea.
I ALMOST FORGOT
©2010 Jon Hanson
It rained a week the day you left
I sat and thought of words you said
I figured it was the end of me
Who knew a man could be so empty
Plans and dreams kids we never had
I was too hurt to even be mad
I couldn’t reconcile love with hate
Through tears I watched you drive away
[musical sigh, or near pause]
I lie in bed and think of happy times
Because I make them so in my mind
I guess I always knew you’d leave me
There are dangers in what we believe
A heart bends a long time before it breaks
The bending seems to ease the ache
Once broken a heart plays tricks on the mind
This one let’s me think you’re still mine
AND TODAY I ALMOST FORGOT
TO FORGET ABOUT YOU
IT'S FUNNY ‘CAUSE IT SEEMS
LIKE THE ONLY THING I DO
Some say I am not a man
‘Cause I won’t curse you and forget
But there’s no bitter memory
Only the hurt your leaving left
AND TODAY I ALMOST FORGOT
TO FORGET ABOUT YOU
IT'S FUNNY ‘CAUSE IT SEEMS
LIKE THE ONLY THING I DO
