Rusty Spurr is a figment of my imagination(or vice-a-versa)
The Dusty Chaps Band consists of me, myself & I and hired hands kind enough to help me out with their talent on my demos.

I wrote this song originally in the mid 70's...I was tending bar at a steak house/club kind of place and on an off nite(mon) an ole cowboy showed up and ordered a shot of rye and a glass of beer and just sat at a corner table just payin' no attention to nobody, sippin', then left. A week later he showed up again, same routine. A week later he showed up again, same routine. Then he never showed up again. I didn't know why he was in the city and I let my imagination run wild. I figured for what ever reason he was sittin' there sippin', he was decidin' he was best off where he belonged...so I wrote a song about him. And then a few years ago(after spendin a little saddle time myself) I remembered it and rewrote it a bit and here it is. True story. Of course I had to write this in a "Country & Western" flavor of the 50's.
Hope it is enjoyed. Thanks for listenin'.

Song For A Cowboy-(c)2004 Jim Durall
I'm a range ridin' cowboy, that's the kind of life that's made for me
I'm a range ridin' cowboy, I'll ride that range until it buries me
I ride my ole horse all day long,
Sometimes I might camp out all nite long
With a campfire and a song and a bedroll for my bones,
I'll be dreamin' while the coyotes carry on
When I'm ridin' in the early mornin' sun
I might think about what else I could have done
But those thoughts just drift away 'cause I'd rather live this way
Even on a cold and stormy day
Repeat Chorus
Saturday night is my night on the town
I'll be there till the dance hall closes down
Well I might get kind of wild, sleep in the ole hoosgow
Then I wonder why I think it's so damn fun
Well the creakin' of the saddle is my song,
'bout all them round-ups I've been on
'bout the daybreak touchin' down
On the horse tracks I put down,
'bout a lonesome dogie bawlin' for his mom
Repeat Chorus
Hope it is enjoyed. Thanks for listenin'.
