Hey Rampers it's good to be in the neighborhood again..scottymac is back! I was going to return in January but my pal Dale Crockett surprised me with a Songramp membership for Christmas and I greatly appreciate his kindness! While I was away Dale and I kept busy recording several new songs like the one I'm posting here, "A Pretty Good Day" that is very short and very special to me. A little over a month ago I had some pretty extensive back surgery and was under the knife a bit over five hours. I had been very concerned about being put out that long and had a lot of thoughts about something going wrong and never waking up again as I really wasn't in the best shape I should have been in and the fact that I'm no spring chicken anymore...the surgery was a success and I'm still here and doing great thank God! I started writing this song before going in the hospital and had only what you see here, one verse, After I got home from surgery I started to finish the song but when I read what I had it touched me deeply and brought me to tears....maybe it was the pain meds I don't know but I couldn't come up with anything else and thought maybe it's supposed to stay as is. Dale's guitar work is beautiful and I really had a hard time getting the vocal down as I just kept breaking into tears and everytime I listen to it I get teary eye'd. I decided to post this as my first song back to the neighborhood and as always I so do appreciate your comments and your time for listening. It's good to be back and I'm going to be a good neighbor to you all...Merry Christmas my friends and a Happy New Year to us all......Scott
A PRETTY GOOD DAY
(C) 2012 Scott McIlwain & Dale Crockett
It was a pretty good day in the neighborhood
Nobody died...nobody got drunk...nobody cried
The Lord let me see another sunrise
Passin' over me in a clear blue sky
Before I laid me down to rest
I gave Him thanks for another sunset
If He comes while I’m asleep and takes me away
It's ok......it was a pretty good day
