Dance on a Wire
I call this version "Dance on a Stripped Wire," since it utilizes so few instruments.
Darkness slips up to you, chases daylight off to
serenade you with songs you thought you knew
Just another day in another town
Something in the air like a dream comes around
A sudden angle of shadow and light
You feel the day slip into night
You look around you and nothing seems quite the same
A fool with a view out of the blue
Feel a spinning world you barely knew
A lonely ray of sunlight on a sad face
The feeling in the air is easy to trace
Deep in my chest I feel every sigh
and every now and then I hear an unheard cry
Hear the echo of heartbeats that time can't erase
A fool with a view out of the blue
Feel a spinning world that's inside you
Now you ask why I save these snapshots from the fire
and why I keep this dusty, old amplifier
And you wonder sometimes if you have any use
for this dance on the wire with me and the Deuce
