Ian Patterson songs
This song went to number one on the Overall Hot 100 and stayed there for two weeks in July, 2005. Today (Tuesday 1st November) is Memorial Day for the bombing victims in London so it seemed an appropriate time to update this with the new band. It was written by Kalliopi Florides, a 15 year old girl in my London music class and dedicated to the bombing victims. Her equally talented older sisters, Eve (17) and Madonna (19), also previous music students, have performed the background vocals. Eve capably sings the lead which was performed in class in one take.
I have included the lyrics as they are very poignant to the recent atrocities both in London and New York. I wrote the arrangement as a surprise for her as well as performed the music onto my Akai DPS 24 track digital recorder. The new mix has been significantly enhanced thanks to the fine contributions of three US based professional musicians and friends, John Havlicek (organ) NY, Peter Generous (drums) Chicago, and another great musician in the band, Carlos (bass) NYC. Finally the awesome Greg V (Nashville) and from the famous Stevie Ray Vaughan Band, agreed to add another guitar voice to mine. I think it develops into an exciting piece of music.
Kalliope originally composed this to run for 5 minutes so there is lots of new entries of instruments, feel and key changes to build the song to a peak. You will hear the band kick in with Eve and Madonna half way through the song.
Thanks immensely to all the above guys from the DPSWorld Board for doing this special thing for my students. The piece is a unique collaboration coming out of strong passions for world peace. Finally thank YOU for listening and encouraging our students, some of whom experienced the bombings first hand.
Ian Patterson,
LONDON
CAUSE OF YOU
"Some say love, is an ocean that drowns your hopes so deep
Some say love, is an eagle that's shot when it's asleep
Some say love is the winter, the frostbites and the cold
I say love is a diamond, that glitters forevermore
CHORUS
'cause of you, you opened up the door
You showed me what life's all about,
I wanna know more
Waterfalls in my heart they're rushing
Fireworks in the dark they're sparkling
Calm, let it begin.
Daffodils in the spring are blooming
Nightingales in the wind are swooping
Calm, let it begin
Some say love's like a, shattering window pane,
that's broken and left in shame
Some say love's like a, staggering bitter burn,
that's left with no return
Some say love is a riddle, too hard to understand
I say love is a rescue, a lifeline in my hand
CHORUS
BRIDGE:
You may think there's no sunshine
But the moon will always glow
You may think you're stuck in a desert
But the mirage will always show
CHORUS

ian1969 07-11-05 Thanks everyone for supporting our students at Canons High in Edgware, London. Our kids had to evacuate their school on Friday after further serious bomb threats. Some kids broke into tears at what the adult world was throwing at them. This song is one way for them to counter destructivity with creativity, and to replace factional hatred with a message of love and hope.

Janzapletal 07-12-05 Great job. The music is great, at one stage I would have liked to hear the singer a bit more towards the end. Her voice was overwhelmed by backing. Singer was very professional. Singer will be big. Awesome Job, Well done to all!
Angeza 07-12-05 After the second time I played this song, It was very difficult to get it out of my head. It has an addictive quality to it. Very catchy. Good song. Congratulations!

alliedreams 07-12-05 Nice song. I wish I had started writing when I was 15, then I'd be so much farther along now! At least I was involved in music in school. I love this, you are doing a great job with those students and it shows.
Allie Dreamseeker 07-13-05 Very well done. I love the music and the lyrics are powerful. Thanks for the invite. Good job! Jen :)
Aprilshowers60 07-13-05 Beautiful piece Ian. I love the piano. Kalliope, Eve and Madoni all done a great job on this. My heart goes out to all you folks also and to everyone all over that has to go through these kind of tragidy's. Kids and Teens have a great way of bouncing back. Just look at these three. When I first started listening here I thought they were singing the harmonies to'The Rose', and then it driffted off into there on unique little style. This is great. Can't wait to hear more and thanks for the invite. This is a great song!
dreamcastle33 07-13-05 Great lyrics Kalliopi, fantastic singing, Eve, and Modonna!!! Teacher take a bow!
grahamhenderson 07-13-05 Very well done and a nice write here Ian. It is a bit too close a relation to The Rose for me musically, and I really feel the message is too abstract to cary much weight in the field it is aiming for. Did you lay the backing over the girls rendition Ian? Or was the backing done prior to the sing? It all sounds real nice whatever.
Graham makeajoyfulnoise 07-13-05 beautiful tune!! very well done...God Bless you all and you are in our prayers...peace to all of you.
buzzman78 07-13-05 Nice demo. I'd have to agree with grahamhenderson. Not only is it musically close to The Rose but the first few lines even start the same. Very nice production though.
Chris 07-15-05 Very well done Ian. For 15 Kalliopi did a great job on the lyrics as did Eve and Madona on vocals. They should be very proud. As their teacher it is great that you have taken the song to this point, that is a wonderful thing to do. ~
Chris Quack_Shite 07-15-05 It shows that Kalliopi, Eve and Madona will go far with what they do best, the lyrics are great, the tune is catchy, and with those beautiful voices this song has shown why it has become so popular in such a small amount of time. This song deserves to be on top with all the effort that has been put in. Also well done to the teacher for helping them out, without his help this might not even have been possible. Congratulations with the song! -
Chris cfm4705 07-15-05 This song made me cry when I first heard it. You guys did a very good job!
JoeC 07-15-05 I enjoyed the song- nice phrasing and lyrics and the music built very well. Some of the double-tracked vocals could be a little tighter, but the talent here is obvious. Keep them kids inspired Ian. Well done.

RichieRich 07-18-05 Very nice - England has been attacked before by terrorist so I know they'll overcome - my heart goes to the victims' families. Really nice tune - nice job by the kids - melody works - song reminds me of Some Say Love Is Like a... I believe I heard Conway Twitty sing it. Overall, great job - lyrically as well. Rich.
