PICTURES AND POEMS
(c) Ramona Schwalbach, Cassie Lord, Sarah Fichter, and John Kelly Gannett
Verse 1
Momma didn't leave a will
it was only my sister and me
cause she knew we'd split it all up evenly
my sister went through the house
she packed the old silver away
she took her clothes and jewelry
but all I wanted was
CHORUS
Pictures of Momma holding me when I was young
poems she wrote to the good Lord above
her old guitar with worn out (brand new) strings
Momma didn't have much
but pictures and poems are everything
Verse 2
I remember at the funeral
when I got up to speak
the words that I had wrote in Momma's memory
the preacher said it was my Momma's gift to me
her love and her poetry
(CHORUS above)
Bridge
I got new strings for that old guitar
but she wanted to teach me to play
I gave each poem a melody
now her words live through me every day
and I still got...
(CHORUS above)
