Its never easy growin up in a small town. Everybody knows your name
Everybody knows your folks. Cant get away with anything
Like the time we took old Charlies car
Ended up in the lake
Anyone can make a mistake.
Boy did they make us pay.
Growinup in a small town
Couldnt wait to get away
Living life in a small town
I got more restless every day.

And when the new girl came to town. With all her big city ways
We felt so clumsy and slow. So much, we just didnt know
Had my first kiss by the railroad track
Fell in love with her that night
So did Bobby and Dwight.
We ended up in a fight
Growin up in a small town
Couldnt wait to get away
Living life in a small town
Getting smaller every day.

Nothing to do so wed hang around and talk
Nowhere to go so wed help out other folk
We thought that life must be passing us by
We couldnt see we had it good.

Well that was 30 years ago. Now Im living upstate
Big house by the park. Condo out at the lake
No one ever says Hi round here. Or looks you straight in the face.
Not like in my old town 
Boy do I miss that place
