Dare to Suck
Kevin Emmrich posted a song a few days ago and brought up the concept of “throw away songs.” I found this song I did in 2008 that I had forgotten about, I wrote it for my wife, but ended up doing something way better. I can’t quite make the vocal but I think you can get the idea. Dale does the guitar work flawlessly. We pulled the chord sequence out of something else I did and worked a new melody trying to get that descending Glenn Campbell sound in “Wichita Lineman” on the landing line in the chorus.

I went twice to Brian White’s Workshop (writer of 2007 song of the year, Watching You-Rodney Atkins) one of the things he taught me was (or tried to) was phrasing cadence and syllable counting (until I can do it with rhythm). But another thing he said often was, "you have to DARE TO SUCK, and suck out loud and in front of people."
While my singing hasn't improved I do think singing your own stuff at least in work out stage is important. I may keep working on it and get a real singer.
Let’s Make Our Life a Movie

Once I was turtle on my back in the middle of the road
But you stopped and flipped me over and gave me a chance to grow old
Then you stood by me through the laughter and the tears
It turns out you were the answer to my prayers
LET’S MAKE OUR LIVES A MOVIE THE GREATEST LOVE STORY EVER TOLD
THEN THE WHOLE WORLD COULD SEE WHAT I ALREADY KNOW
THAT LOVES NOT JUST WHAT YOU SAY IT’S WHAT YOU DO
EVERYTHING I KNOW ABOUT LOVE I LEARNED BY WATCHING YOU
Sometimes I can’t believe my life turned out so cool
In real life a guy like me ends up with a girl like you
You showed me how to walk in strength and love
The riches of the world without you wouldn’t be enough
Chorus
Bridge:
And in the last scene of the movie it’d be you right there with me
Showing me just once more how to live unselfishly
Chorus
