 2008 Jon Hanson 9-18Guitar: Dale Crockett  In a great song the title is the star  If its clever and hooky it could go far  Dont use a clich unless you can make it pay  And dont bore us get to the chorus right away  I bet there are a million song writing wrongs  There might even be a couple in this very song   Give us a chorus that soars; verses that explain  Sum it up PLEASE dont leave us in pain  Its good when we can ALL sing along Some songs need HELP but not MY SONG   YOUR song has some time-line problems going on  And at eight and a half minutes it seems a little long  In verse one youre married and thirty five  Two lines later youre sixteen and learning to drive  Pretend you and the listener are having a chat  Just like Im talking to you nowcan you do that?   Repeat Chorus  (Bridge Spoken sing last line)  Some come to songwriting groups but they dont want advice  Others are so smart they only come twice  Some say theyll never sell-out and use words that aint nice  Me Im already sold; Im just negotiating the price   Repeat Chorus (2x)  Tag Its good when we can ALL sing along  Some songs need HELP but not MY SONG   My original scratch version is here: I wrote this about when Jerry Reed died so we had a real jammin' intro (17 seconds which I cut on the song ramp version)
