Ray Parenteau songs
This is a song I wrote when I didn't know what "getting older" really meant. I recorded this in 1999 - one of my first attempts with a home studio setup.
Listening to it now, I hear a lot of production things that could be better - but the song still remains one of my favorites. I think most songwriters on the 'Ramp can relate...
I would be interested in collaborating on a better produced version if anyone is interested. Drop me a line. And thanks for listening!

(Verse 1)
My vision once was true, and I was never blue
I knew what I wanted, I was driven
But some things have a way, of leading us astray
And we settle for another way of living
(Chorus 1)
Getting Older's getting harder every day
As more promises and chances slip away
Never to be had again
'Cause we'll never be where we have been today
(Verse 2)
I once had a plan, life would be so grand
Write a song, make a million and be happy
But I never found the time, and the words just wouldn't rhyme
And I couldn't write the perfect melody
(Chorus 2)
You try and live your life the way it ought to be
But something's always coming up and then you see
You give up one thing for another
That's the way it's always gonna be
(Instrumental Verse to Chorus 1)
(Verse 3)
If I could start anew, I know what I would do
I'd stick to my plan right to the letter
But we all know it's true, you do what you must do
And change isn't always for the better
(Chorus 1)
(Ending Chorus)
You try and live your life the way it ought to be
But something's always coming up and then you see
You give up one thing for another
That's the way it's always gonna be
That's the way it's always gonna be
That's the way it's always gonna be
