Rusty Blake ramblings
Nope. I didn't leave Maine. This story was inspired by a friend of mine who actually did leave the frozen north to follow her kids and grand kids across the country. She, however, did not miss the freezin'!
Our whole life is stacked and stowed we wave goodbye to our abode
The thirty years of memories flood my mind
Our kids like rivers flowed into new life down the road
So we followed them into that warmer clime
You see we love the grandkids so and we want to watch them grow
So we left the land of snow behind
Now we trim the yucca tree and it's 85 degrees
Christmas season, tee-shirt-weather day
But nothing is for free and something's lost inside of me
I can't believe the words I'm going to say...
I want to feel the icy wind, see kids frolicking again
like snowmen harlequins at play
I miss the land of real four seasons
just the thought of it is pleasin'
And I miss the freezin'
Now in my arms today are two reasons why I say
I'm torn between two worlds so here I kneel
Grant me happiness to stay though my heart is far away
In a place where nightfall makes your blood congeal
The balsam fir is calling me to sing carols in harmony
Feel the strength of family like steel
I know the reason for the season
Just the thought of it is pleasin'
But I miss the freezin'
