Jon Hanson songs
Jon Nicol is a friend from an NSAI group I belong to. Now he lives 100 miles north. He was writing this song about a member of his family. I loved his hook and joined up with him to help try to make the story have a hopeful ending and try to get the characters in the song to forgive and think about their marriage vows before God, and what would be best for the little girl.
Sometimes, for me, as a songwriter writing to a desired outcome is far more fulfilling than "just reporting the news." I was glad I could help Jon put a hopeful spin on the song. When I heard his hook idea I said, "There just is no way to Exit Right". Jon has brought this song a long way especially musically and style wise since I last heard it months ago. I will make sure to forward any comments to Jon Nicol. Thanks.

Curtains opened to our princess in a costume her grandma made
She led a troupe of 2nd graders dancing across the stage
Her mom and I set aside, our differences for that night
It’d been a long while since we both smiled
And I thought if we
chorus
Try, we just might
Make it, we can work out it out
I don’t want tonight, To be goodbye,
My heart’s achin’ just thinkin how
I wanna stay (you gotta stay)
Cuz there ain’t no way, to exit right
With our Princess asleep in the backseat, we didn’t have to pretend
I could see her in my rearview and said remember when
She walked for the first time, little steps between you and I
I looked at my wife, saw a tear in her eye
And I thought if we
Repeat Chorus
bridge
As we walked to our front door
I wanted nothing more
Than to stay
So I barely believed the words
That I heard my wife say
if we…she knew what I was thinkin
my heart skipped when she said,
Repeat Chorus
and coda out
