I just can't say enough good things about my cowriter on this song. He's brilliant- and most of you know that. He wrote the lyric (I think I changed one word). I lost this song in the translation (new SR) somehow, so this is a repost.
Thanks for all your votes for this song on CMT.com! Tim and I were thrilled to be in the top 15 (but didn't win).
Crimes Against Ohio
©2006 Wheeler/Valentine
I've been doing time for my actions long ago
When I put that man into an early grave
They say I'm on my way to rehabilitation
But I maintain there's little left to save
After all these years
Chorus
I got twenty years to life, for crimes against Ohio
And many thought I should've got the chair
But I was living in prison before the jury gave a verdict
So what's the difference if I'm living here or there
Paying for Crimes against Ohio
Most likely you'll refuse to open up this letter
If that is what you choose, I'll understand
I'm sure you won't believe me when I say I've always loved you
That losing you was not part of my plan
After all these years
Chorus
Bridge I'm asking your forgiveness
for the killing of your father
Before he got the chance to hurt you
one more time
Chorus
