This was one of John's earliest recordings. I celebrate his talent in this one, because it is so different in style from his later recordings. John grew weary of working on a single song, because a dozen more were playing in his brain to be recorded. He wanted to try different styles of music, different themes, different lyrical approaches. He reminded me of a painter exploring different styles of his art form and always looking for ways to emerge into a better songcrafter.
Again...one of the earliest songs.

verse-1.....16 bars
Deep inside my head I'm screaming
Thoughts that you are not revealing
We were once in love or so I'm told...
This loneliness is never ending
Broken hearted not pretending......
beating from your heart, my blood runs cold...
chorus
You were the one who took my life
Humiliation poured from you...
I should have known that you didn't need me.
Adrift on a sea of broken dreams
Expectations came from you.
Never a thought for the lost and the lonely.
Verse -2
On the outside you were smiling
Deep within you demon's raging.
Life goes on and still the river flows
Solitary brings seclusion,
Wake to find there's no illusion....
Hope this finds you well, I'll have to close
chorus
You were the one who took my life
Humiliation poured from you...
I should have known that you didn't need me.
Adrift on a sea of broken dreams
Expectations came from you,
Never a thought for the lost and the lonely.
Bridge.(instrumental)...to Chorus x 2 to end
