Someone give Rusty a shout - this is going to be a long preamble. We all know how he loves those and far be it from me to disappoint him. I haven't been around too much these past months because I've been working on two local, weekly radio shows. The newest one is called Malt Shop Memory and has been on the air since May. It's 30 minutes of oldies (50s & 60s) hosted by me with some trivia thrown in the mix. I had wrapped up 25 episodes and was about to call it done as I had exhausted my oldies collection. Enter Ramper Ed Dunn to the rescue: he opened up his extensive oldies collection and sent some 600 or more songs my way. This will yield a total of 88 half-hour programs and I've been researching the back story on every one of those songs and recording all those episodes. Still a long ways to go. They will air locally every Saturday night through January of 2015, thanks to Mr. Dunn.
The other program is a weekly hour-long show where we feature original songs by writers from all over the Pacific Northwest. My co-host and co-producer, John Fershee, is also a songwriter, as is his wife... they perform all over the local states and roght now are on a gig in San Francisco. Our program is called Song Shack and to date we've had on 178 individual writers and almost 500 of their songs; very proud of that.
Meanwhile I'm still writing away and recording new songs, albeit at a much slower pace. Here is a recent one which is really outside the box for me... nearly twice as long as my usual tunes and in finger-picking 6/8 time. Hope you enjoy it. (Was that long enough, oh Rusty One?)
A HEART JUST KNOWS
21 May 2013
VERSE 1
Sometimes a heart just seems to know
When a lover's wanting is growing cold
And the fire has gone out, deep within her soul
She goes through the motions, 'till it's time to go
CHORUS
One thing is certain
The hurtin'.... will show
Sometimes a heart just knows
VERSE 2
Sometimes a heart just seems to know
When the days grow older and the nights won't hold
And there is no ember, like the one we used to know
Eyes search for summer, seeing only snow
CHORUS
VERSE 3
Sometimes a heart just seems to know
When words left unsaid have taken their toll
When clocks run backward and yes becomes no
No use regretting, time for letting go
CHORUS & OUT
