Back in doo wop mode. Since Brad himself asked me about this I figured maybe someone else wants to know. The use of the term ??golly woggy? in the Lift has a back story. Doesn't everything in life? Back in the early 60s I used to go to dances in El Cerrito, California where the Blue Velvets played. They later changed their name briefly to Golliwogs before settling on their permanent name... Creedence Clearwater Revival. So this was a bit of a tribute to them. Besides, it fit. The ??no mas? is a nod towards my oldies singer Jason. By day he is a mild mannered high school Spanish teacher ?? by night he's Mr. Oldies incarnate.
Contrary to popular belief we didn't resurrect the bass singer from The Monotones for this song... that's Brad hitting those incredible low notes. That's also him doing the high backing parts. Can anyone say the words vocal range? As usual Jason Whited sings the lead and as usual it's spot on. Hope you enjoy.
