Gerry Coogan songs
This song was written long ago in the aftermath of a break-up which I thought I'd got over but a recurring dream suggested otherwise. The thing that really shook me was how REAL the dream seemed - I woke up convinced that I was receiving a message of some deep significance through a previously unsuspected psychic ability. Writing this song stopped the dreams. The lyric more or less describes the dream itself in the first verse and chorus with a message to myself in the second verse. Her name was Dawn, hence the "Hold on/Oh Dawn" homonym in the chorus. I've always liked this song but there was no way of doing it as a reggae song (we tried!) so here it is in the clothes that it fits.

JUST A DREAM by MATW
From nowhere,
the answer to a prayer,
out of the blue,
she come back again.
She's right here,
she whispers in my ear,
"I love only you,
I just had to come back again."
Wherever you were
you've come back to where
you belong.
I've missed you so much
I've longed for your touch
Hold on!
Something's wrong -
it's just a dream.
There's no way
the pain will go away
while I pretend
she might appear again
I know I've got to let it go
but in the end
I just want her here again
Her face haunts my dream
I hear myself scream
"Don't go!"
She looks in my eye
she smiles then I cry
"Oh no!"
Then I know - it's just a dream
