Dale Crockett mitunes songs
This is another one "from the archives". Back in 1996, a friend of mine was asked to perform a couple of songs at a large fundraising banquet for a "pro-life" organization, and she asked me to write a song for her to perform. This is what I came up with. Several months later, I was asked to perform the song at another similar event. I've gotten two cuts of this one by artists on indy labels in Nashville. This is my own version of the song.
HE WOULD HAVE BEEN FIVE TODAY
He would have been five today, eating ice cream and chocolate cake
Opening presents and birthday cards, playin’ with his puppy out in the yard
But you see, he isn’t here to have his one special day of the year
So, there’s no candles, no shining face ‘cause where he’d be, there’s just empty space
He would have been five today a little boy, wanting to play
His chance to be his mother’s little man was denied by the work of a doctor’s hands
You see, his life didn’t matter then even though he was Heaven-sent
And if Heaven could have had its way, he would have been five today
CHORUS:
CHORUS:
TIME GOES ON, THE WORLD STILL SPINS
THEY HAVE THEIR LIFE, HE DOESN’T HAVE HIS
IF IT HADN’T BEEN FOR THE CHOICE THEY MADE
HE WOULD HAVE BEEN FIVE TODAY
He would have been five today, but his life got in their way
Now they’ll never see their child grow and what he would have been, they’ll never know
‘Cause you see, this little boy, who’ll never be a man is resting safe in the Master’s hands
If they had just taken the time to pray, he would have been five today
(CHORUS REPEAT)
IF IT HADN’T BEEN FOR THE CHOICE THEY MADE
HE WOULD HAVE BEEN FIVE TODAY
HE WOULD HAVE BEEN FIVE TODAY
