I collaborated with my wife, Faith and my son, Jeremy in writing and recording music that mostly tells the story of my childhood, life and family. It's an eclectic mix of folk, country, jazz and a little rock.
"Woman in the Rain"
My parents met in 1955, in a rainstorm in Gridley, California. Carl, with a failed marriage behind him, ran a little diner. Barbara, with little Susie in tow, was hoping for a new life after a series of personal disasters. She died in 1959, a victim, some would say, of a broken heart.
Rainy night in Gridley, not much movin' on the street,
Car lights cast a pale yellow glow upon her feet.
She'd been runnin' from her family, too ashamed to take her in.
'Cause the child runnin' with her was born in sin.
Chorus
A lonely woman in the rain, and a diner by the road,
With a man behind the counter and all the miles that his face showed.
Was there hope enough to bind them, or trust so they'd believe?
Would she stay the night forever or still searchin' rise and leave?
And if they came together, how would the story end?
Would the hardness of their livin' make 'em break, or just to bend?
Her life began so different, not supposed to be this way,
She had the comforts that God gives to the blessed ones who pray.
Without a single warning, everything was gone,
With a child and no future she could scarcely move along.
Like something from the Twilight Zone his diner beckoned her,
A shelter from the rain or was it more?
She was desperate, lonely, tired -- needed savin' from the road,
Could his little trailer house become a home?
