Songs I have written with Alex Stangl
Reposted with the right mix! :)
Lyrics by Beeswing
Melody, music, vocals by Alex
This lyric was inspired by a dear friend, who is unhappy with his life, and dreams of living on his favourite Greek island. He read a quote attributed to Fidel Castro - "Id rather die in Heaven than live in Hell" - and asked me to write a song for him based on this idea.
Thank you so much Alex - you interpreted it perfectly!
Heaven
Don't belong in this rain sodden town
Treading water in the grey stone cold
If I stay any longer I will drown
Every day leaves me chilled to my soul
White-washed house is waiting for me
Bright flowers on blue window sills
And a view of an iridescent sea
From the crest of a scented hill
It's my idea of heaven
I wanna be in heaven
I'd rather die in heaven
Than live my life in hell
Golden moon in a star-silvered sky
Is all the treasure that I need
To laze in a sun-blessed paradise
Spend the rest of my days living free
Ride a bus, take a train, drive a car
Don't care how, but I'll find the fare
In my mind I'm swinging on that star
In my dreams I am already there
I'll find my way to heaven
I wanna be in heaven
I'd rather die in heaven
Than live my life in hell
I'm fading to grey, a still life monotone
The days are so short and the night falls all too soon
My heart wants to fly where bougainvilleas bloom
By shores of my spiritual home
I wanna be in heaven
Someday I'll be in heaven
I'd rather die in heaven
Than live my life in hell

02-04-06 pretty & soulful lyrics, vocals are spot on, liking the harp and guitar, but feel the drums aren't always in synch, maybe more cymbals and less flat snare...?

02-04-06 powerful combo. lyrics come to life so well with all the vivid descriptions of the 'good' and contrasting 'bad' enviornments to exist in. Alex matched the sentiment perfectly with a sort of lazyily 'let it roll' off the shoulder arrangement, melody and production. ending was a tad abrupt. Not sure if that was by design or not but it's nice as the listener to wonder. A fine example of 'the grass is greener' vibe. Takes me back to MASH 4077 philosophy. 'if your not where ya are your no place at all' and 'the anticipation of ones dreams is far greater than the ambition of one reality'. food for thought that came to mind during this sonic treat. love it.

Great lyrics Diane, looks to me like you achieved exactly what you set out to. And Alex has pulled them all together in a real cracker of a tune. More please! T

02-05-06 I gotta pipe in early - really enjoyed working on this Bee - but - yiko! - as I emailed you - this mix is not right - I had the "loudness" button turned on when I mixed this trough my stereo - big oops - sorry Bee - I already emailed The Ramp - and told them they should have an option to update a already posted song with a new mix - they replied & said it's on their "to do" list - a lot of excuses & blah, blah on my part - but - just want to do justice (as best I can) with your lyrics - Alex
