Songs I have written with Rob Campbell
Lyrics by Beeswing
Melody by Chuck Crowe
Vocals by Mary Madison (Little Hippie)
Guitar, BGV and mix by RJC (Rob Campbell)
The melody for this song was originally composed by "Uncle" Chuck Crowe (athabaxtra here on Songramp) and I posted a version of him performing it a few years back.
Mary had told me that she would love to record a version of the song, so when she and Rob got together in his studio last week it was a great opportunity for them to work on it together! I was overjoyed with the result!
Thank you so much Mary! You sing it so beautifully and with such feeling!
Rob your guitar is perfectly understated and your harmonies on the chorus are the icing on the cake!
Many thanks to you both...and to Chuck for bringing my words to life in the first place!
She's Never Going Back
Her battered old kit bag
Is all that matters to her now
Torn and tattered like the life she leads
But she'll survive somehow
She just keeps moving on
She's only lost what she don't need
Ain't nothing that she has to prove
Except that she is free
She's on a one way track
Her mind's a lonely canyon
And pride her sole companion
But she's never going back
She's running from a life
Of innocence and trust betrayed
The ones who should have kept her safe
Stole away her childhood days
Her heart is fixed and cold
So much older than her sixteen years
There's one thing that she knows for sure
She'll be crying no more tears
She's on a one way track
Her mind's a lonely canyon
And pride her sole companion
But she's never going back
If she doesn't hope
She won't be disillusioned
If she doesn't give
There's nothing she risks losing
So she's stopped listening
For words that will never be spoken
Why open up a heart
That's for ever broken
So she follows the directions
That keep her riding down the track
On the lonely side of unforgiving
And she's not looking back
She's never going back
Her mind's a lonely canyon
And pride her sole companion
But she's never going back
