Solo write and pro demo from way back in about 2008-9. Ophelia was the Shakespearean character who famously went mad. Flowers are a literary metaphor for madness, hence the lyrical reference. I have largely used a 4A rhyme scheme for variety and challenge.
OPHELIA
V1:
The innocence of youth
So burdened with dark proof
Could not remain aloof
Confronted by harsh truth
V2:
The fickleness of men
You could not comprehend
You must have feared back then
Betrayal would never end
V3:
And in your lonely bower
All garlanded with flowers
A princess in your tower
You whiled away long hours
Ch1:
Ophelia, Ophelia
I'll always remember exactly how you were
Ophelia, Ophelia
Before the chains of madness made you a prisoner
Ophelia, Ophelia
How it all comes flooding back
The memories so clear
Not a single day goes by
That I don't wish you here
V4:
With that sad, troubled look
You were an open book
And in a rushing brook
Your own young life you took
V5:
If I reach three score and ten
Your kind won't come again
So glad I knew you when
We could once pass as friends
V6:
Sweet joy and agony
Your lasting legacy
Though you no longer see
Your spellbound hold on me
Ch2:
Ophelia, Ophelia
How I never could forget exactly how you were
Ophelia, Ophelia
Before the gods of madness took you prisoner
Ophelia, Ophelia
Engraved upon my memory
So cherished and so dear
Never does a day go by
That I don't want you near
V7:
Sweet innocence of youth
So haunted by dark proof
Could never stay aloof
Fell victim to harsh truth...
